Glacier Computer has announced that IGEL Technology, the world's third largest thin client vendor, has released their IGEL-5310 LX Premium Image for the Glacier Everest rugged industrial computer.

Common installations are onboard forklift computers, warehouse walls, and at shop floor data collection stations. The IGEL 5310 thin client is designed specifically for software environments that require rich digital services, maximum performance, and security. Unlike traditional PCs, which process applications locally and hence require powerful microprocessors, storage and memory, thin clients rely on a server to process applications and data and then provide end user access to various services. Through its 'Universal Desktop approach, IGEL is able to deliver any PC application to the Glacier Everest users with such a quality experience, that they don't realize they're not working on a thick PC.

IGEL's solution is ideal for creating access to multiple digital services simultaneously, including terminal application environments, web-based applications, virtual PCs, VoIP, SAP, multi-media and a wide range of others. Bundled with every IGEL/Glacier thin client is a full version of the IGEL Remote Management Suite. This powerful yet easy-to-use tool allows users to manage the Glacier hardware remotely, saving money and reducing time.

The software is extremely open and network friendly to fit into any organization's existing infrastructure, and enables IT administrators to manage hundreds or thousands devices at once, quickly setting up user profiles, changing device settings, re-imaging devices with new updates, and performing diagnostics and support with the click of a mouse.

Glacier Computer has partnered with Shockwatch of Dallas, TX to supply FleetControl Manager for forklift monitoring.  FleetControl Manager is a product that connects directly to the Glacier forklift terminal via a USB or serial cable. Features of FleetControl Manager include:

• Ensures OSHA compliance with access control and a pre-shift safety checklist
• Increases safety by tracking operator training schedules and certification
• Provides real-time impact detection for timely repairs
• Provides accurate and timely usage data

All information is sent to a central server via the wireless radio located in the Glacier forklift computer.

PS2 Locking Clamp
Keyboards and bar code scanners are often connected to Glacier’s industrial computers for use in the data collection process. However, the connection is often accidentally pulled out or can vibrate out over time. This can cause a series of issues, including the need to reboot the unit to be recognized as a PS/2 device. More serious issues include scanners being run over by the forklift on which it is mounted and, thus, being destroyed. The Glacier clamp provides a solid grip on the PS/2 and/or USB connection, and is in the process of being adapted for use with other devices.

Alternative terminals offer either no locking function or a custom connector, such as a DB9 style. However, these require custom mating cables, which result in greater lead time and additional cost at time of ordering. Additionally, custom connectors reduce flexibility due to the inability to swap between arrays of industrial peripherals.

Embedded XP Thumb Drive Recovery System
Glacier is pleased to announce the release of our custom, Linux-based Thumb Drive Image Recovery system.  Our Thumb Drive solution allows customers to re-image an industrial computer in eight minutes without having to remove the device from the forklift, dock door, or shop floor location.  In addition, images can be copied and moved by authorized IT folks within the organization greatly reducing implementation time of new devices.  Glacier developed the Linux-based image and the recovery process has been field tested at several customer locations.
