You Might Not Know This But Goldilocks Grew Up to be a Warehouse Manager

You might not know this but Goldilocks grew up to be a warehouse manager…And yes, she tried to save money by using so-called rugged or semi-rugged tablets when the bean-counters couldn’t bear the price of a truly rugged device. But that ended up costing as much or more in repairs and downtime because the work was “too hard” and the units were “too soft.” Then she discovered the KODIAK VMT, and it was just right…

Helping City Furniture Maintain Superior Efficiency

Modern Materials Handling Magazine published a piece about the durability of rugged computer terminals used by City Furniture, in Florida. Ricky Maharaj had this to say about the Everest E2000 CE systems they were using. “In a fast-paced, rugged environment, operations depend on equipment that is durable, able to sustain rough usage, and can maintain superior efficiency.” Glacier engineers worked with Ricky and the warehouse managers to customize a rugged hardware and software solution for their operation.  “The customer and supplier worked closely to design a customized interface on the new operating system, which works seamlessly with the existing warehouse management system (WMS). The interface reduces configuration, maintenance time, and the risk associated with moving to a new operating system.” Glacier and City Furniture continue to have regular conversations to maintain that fine-tuned success. And last month, City Furniture began adding Kodiak’s to their growing operation. Kodiak is Glacier Computer’s newest, 5th

Lift Truck Tips: Mobile computers react to mounting demands

Excerpted from a recent article in Material Handling Magazine. When the concept of a forklift-mounted computer emerged, it was accompanied by a keyboard, separate battery and a better power conversion device specific to electric or propane, each of which had to be precisely and permanently integrated. Then, you had to manage, upgrade and optimize the operating systems. According to Ron D’Ambrosio, president and CEO of Glacier Computer, a single touchscreen terminal now houses all of these elements, but to address the hardware specs alone barely scratches the surface. “The newest VMT technology is made to collect equipment and safety data from a vehicle management system, inventory and operational data from a warehouse management system, and any other PC-driven processes that the enterprise requires,” D’Ambrosio says. “Then it must not only disseminate that information, but provide the flexibility to orient the data to a variety of departments within the enterprise. The Intelligent Forklift

A Brief about the Interaction of Two Dissimilar Technologies that Converge at the Forklift As forklifts begin to emerge from being the last frontier of technology change in the warehouse, an evolution begins to take place at the most unexpected but most logical place:  The Intelligent Forklift. Understanding this convergence opens a new era for those technologies that are dependent on the data collection activities that are resident on the forklift. The term Smart “x” is the new standard when referring to cars, phones, hospital beds and now forklifts.  Each has their own set of circumstances that qualify for this honor.  The forklift and its constituents are our primary focus in this primer. Taking a closer look at those players, we have the following: Forklift Manufacturer – Many players in this arena answer the call of electric vs. gas, stationary vs. mobile, manned vs. unmanned, etc.  There are many companies
